VAT and e-invoicing for restaurants and cafés in the UAE
Your POS issues the receipts at the counter. Aqid ERP holds the totals it reports at 5% VAT under the branch and emirate they belong to, and lays out the VAT 201 from the ledger: standard-rated sales by emirate, and input tax on suppliers and rent, each box opening to its documents. You enter the figures on EmaraTax yourself, by the 28th day after the period ends; the layout has not yet been checked with a live filing.
Sales to walk-in customers are outside the UAE e-invoicing phases announced so far. Invoices to businesses are not: a catering invoice to a company already leaves Aqid ERP with signed PINT AE XML, and a business under AED 50M must send such invoices through an accredited service provider from 1 July 2027 (from 1 January 2027 at AED 50M or more). Aqid ERP's connection to a provider is not yet live, and Aqid ERP is not itself a provider.
A café that sells only to consumers will still need a provider to receive its suppliers' e-invoices. Confirm your dates with the Ministry of Finance and the FTA, and take any VAT question about your menu, service charges or delivery sales to your tax adviser.
