Where the SADAD bill comes from
As soon as a VAT return is submitted, or amended, on ZATCA's portal, the portal issues a SADAD bill: a bill number and the amount due. Penalties, when there are any, get a SADAD bill of their own. The bill is what the business pays; there is no separate payment form to fill in.
Paying it
- From the business's online banking: SADAD payments, ZATCA as the biller, and the SADAD bill number.
- From an ATM, with the same bill number.
- Pay the bill's exact amount; a bill that is paid is closed against the return.
The deadline
Payment is due by the same date as the return: the last day of the month after the tax period, for monthly and for quarterly filers alike. A return filed on time but paid late is still late: the penalty counts from the deadline to the day of payment.
Paying late
The late-payment penalty is 5 % of the unpaid tax for each month, or part of a month, it stays unpaid. On SAR 20,000 of VAT paid two months late, it is SAR 2,000. Filing late is a separate penalty, on top. ZATCA has run penalty-relief initiatives at times; their terms and dates are on its site.
| VAT due | SAR 20,000 |
|---|---|
| Months late | 2 |
| Penalty (5 % × 2) | SAR 2,000 |
How Aqid ERP helps
Aqid ERP prepares the return from the invoices and bills already in the books, box by box, so the figure you file and pay is the one the ledger shows. The payment, once made, is recorded against the period from the bank account it left: one entry clears the period's output and input VAT, so both accounts are at nil for it.
