VAT number

The 15-digit number ZATCA gives a business registered for VAT; it starts with 3 and ends in 03.

In Arabic: الرقم الضريبي

Meaning

The VAT number (الرقم الضريبي) is the identifier the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority issues when a business registers for value added tax. It has fifteen digits: a leading 3, the business's ten-digit tax identification number with its check digit, three digits for the branch or group, and a closing 03 that marks it as a VAT registration. It is printed on every tax invoice the business issues and on every tax invoice it receives, because input VAT is deducted only against a supplier's valid number.

Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies exceed SAR 375,000 in any twelve months and voluntary from SAR 187,500. A business that is not registered has no VAT number, charges no VAT and must not call its invoice a tax invoice. The number is public: anyone can check it on ZATCA's lookup service.

Example

Al Noor Trading Est. registers for VAT and receives 310122393500003. From that day its invoices carry the number, its customers deduct the 15 percent it charges, and its supplier bills are checked for a number of the same shape before the VAT on them is reclaimed.
