The six parts
SPL's national address has six parts. Two pairs go together: the building number with the street, and the additional number with the district.
| Building number | 4 digits, the building on its street |
|---|---|
| Street name | The street the building number is on |
| District | The district (حي) the building is in |
| City | The city |
| Postal code | 5 digits |
| Additional number | 4 digits, the building's precise location |
The short address
The short address is the whole national address turned into one code of four letters and four digits, easy to remember and to give over the phone. SPL's own example is RAGI2929, for 2929 Rayhanah Bint Zaid, 8118 Al Arid district, Riyadh 13337. On an invoice the address is written in full; the short address is for finding it.
What a tax invoice must carry
Every tax invoice carries the seller's name, VAT number and address. A standard tax invoice, issued to a business, also carries the buyer's name, address and VAT number if the buyer is registered. A simplified tax invoice, to a consumer, needs no buyer address.
- In Phase 2 the address is sent to ZATCA in the invoice's XML, field by field: building number, street, district, city, postal code, and the additional number.
- A standard invoice to a Saudi buyer is checked for the buyer's street, city, postal code and country; in practice the building number and district are expected too, so keep them on every customer.
- A buyer outside Saudi Arabia is invoiced at the address of their own country, which has no Saudi building or additional number.
Finding and registering a national address
A business finds or registers its national address with SPL, online or in SPL's app. Individuals register free; businesses pay a fee set by SPL. The address the business uses on its invoices is the one on its SPL record, and it should match the one ZATCA holds for its VAT registration.
How Aqid ERP handles it
A company's address in Aqid ERP has the national address's own fields: building number, street, district, city, postal code and additional number. So does every customer. A standard invoice to a Saudi customer without them is held back with the fields to fill in, before it reaches ZATCA, instead of coming back rejected.
