Evidence that money came in
A receipt voucher (سند قبض) is the paper that proves a payment was received: from whom, how much, by what means, and against what. It is signed by the person who received the money and stamped, and a copy goes to the payer. In the books it debits the bank or the cash box and credits the customer's account, which is why the voucher names the invoice it settles.
- A voucher number and date.
- Received from: the payer's name.
- The amount in figures and in words, and the method: cash, transfer, cheque, card, with the reference.
- What it settles: the invoice number or the description of the advance.
- Received by, signature and the company stamp.
A receipt is not an invoice
The voucher charges no VAT and the payer recovers none from it; VAT sits on the tax invoice the voucher settles. There is one case to watch: an advance received before the invoice. VAT becomes due at the earliest of supply, invoice and payment, so an advance is a taxable event in its own right and must be invoiced. Issue the voucher for the money and the tax invoice for the VAT.
