What the customer owes, and how it got there
A statement of account (كشف حساب) lists everything on one customer's account for a period: the opening balance, each invoice as a debit, each payment and credit note as a credit, and the balance after every line. The closing balance is what is owed today. It is sent monthly, or when chasing, and it is the paper a customer reconciles against their own purchase ledger before paying.
- Your details and the customer's, and the period covered.
- The opening balance, which equals the previous statement's closing balance.
- Date, reference, description, debit, credit and running balance per line.
- Totals of debits and credits, and the closing balance.
- Optionally an ageing: how much of the balance is current, 30, 60 and 90 days past due.
The sample
An opening balance of 12,000.00, a tax invoice for 11,385.00, a payment of 7,665.00 and a credit note of 1,725.00. The running balance closes at 13,995.00. The statement is informative, not a tax document: it charges nothing and carries no QR code, and every figure on it points to an invoice, a voucher or a note that does.
