WPS (Qatar Wage Protection System)

Qatar's system for paying private-sector wages by bank transfer, run by the Ministry of Labour and the QCB.

In Arabic: نظام حماية الأجور في قطر

Meaning

Qatar's Wage Protection System (نظام حماية الأجور) follows from Law No. 1 of 2015, which amended article 66 of the Labour Law: wages are paid in Qatari riyals by transfer to the worker's account at a financial institution in Qatar, and the employer has paid only when that transfer is made. Ministerial Decision No. 4 of 2015 set up the system that tracks the transfers for the Ministry of Labour.

Since 8 September 2026, under Decision No. 50 of 2026, a monthly paid worker's wage falls due on the first day of each month, and the employer has seven days from then to transfer it through the WPS. An employer that does not pay can have new work permits stopped and its dealings with the Ministry suspended until every overdue wage is transferred.
