Meaning
Under article 54 of Qatar's Labour Law (Law No. 14 of 2004), a worker who has completed at least one year of service is owed an end-of-service gratuity of at least three weeks' basic wage for each year, with parts of a year counted in proportion. It is worked out on the basic wage on the day it falls due; allowances such as housing and transport are left out unless the contract includes them.
A contract can give more, and many give a month a year; it can never give less. Where the employer's retirement scheme pays the worker more, the worker takes one or the other, not both. Qatari staff of a private employer have been covered since 3 January 2023 by the Social Insurance Law, Law No. 1 of 2022.

Example
A worker leaves after six years on a basic wage of QAR 9,000 a month. A week's basic wage is 9,000 × 12 ÷ 52 = QAR 2,076.92, so three weeks a year is QAR 6,230.77 and six years come to QAR 37,384.62.
