Business in Sohar, and the part Aqid ERP plays

Sohar, on the Batinah coast, is Oman's industrial port: the steel, aluminium and petrochemical plants, the refinery, the free zone and the traders and fabricators that buy from them and sell across Oman and abroad.

Their books turn on stock in several places, goods bought at the port and sold locally or exported, and a factory payroll. Aqid ERP keeps each warehouse's stock against the ledger, flags export sales at zero rate where your adviser confirms it applies, and prepares the 5% return from the rest. Customs declarations stay with your broker.

How a business in Sohar runs on Aqid ERP

A stock account per warehouse

Each warehouse carries its own inventory account; receive, move, sell or count, and the stock value and cost of sales move with it at weighted average.

Local and export sales apart

A local invoice carries 5% VAT and an export one the zero rate your adviser confirms; the return keeps them in their own boxes with the invoices behind them.

Purchases matched to orders

Orders above your limit wait for a second approver; the supplier's bill is matched to the order and the goods received.

Factory payroll with SPF

Monthly payroll for operators and drivers, Social Protection Fund contributions for Omani employees, end of service for the rest, and bilingual payslips.

A month at a metals trader in Sohar (example)

  1. Say a metals trader in Sohar invoices OMR 310,000.000 of steel products sold locally in October, all at the standard rate. That is OMR 15,500.000 VAT, OMR 325,500.000 in total, on tax invoices issued from Aqid ERP with your VATIN.
  2. A supplier bills OMR 190,000.000 plus OMR 9,500.000 VAT for coils bought from the port, posted against a purchase order and tagged to the Sohar warehouse.
  3. Payroll for 42 staff runs with Social Protection Fund contributions for Omani employees and end-of-service accruals, and its cost is posted to the books from the same run.
  4. The VAT return shows OMR 15,500.000 output VAT and OMR 9,500.000 input VAT, so OMR 6,000.000 to pay before any other purchases. Each box opens to the invoices and bills behind it.
  5. These figures only show the arithmetic. How VAT applies to your supplies is for your tax adviser, set up before you start invoicing.

The rules in Oman, and what Aqid ERP does with them

VAT: the standard rate is 5%, with exports and some supplies zero-rated as the law allows. The return is prepared from the books in the Tax Authority's layout and every figure opens to the invoices and bills behind it; that layout has not yet been checked against the Authority's portal, and filing stays with you or your adviser.

Money: the rial is divided into 1,000 baisa, and Aqid ERP keeps three decimals on every document, in every report and in the ledger.

E-invoicing: the Tax Authority's Fawtara system is not connected. Invoices and credit notes carry your VATIN and go out as PDF with a QR code.

Payroll: Social Protection Fund contributions for Omani employees, end-of-service accruals, leave and claims, and payslips in Arabic and English. Oman's Wage Protection System salary file is not produced yet; the bank's template is filled from the pay run's figures.

Questions

Does Aqid ERP keep a customs export ledger for Sohar?

No. It invoices exports at the zero rate where your adviser confirms it applies, keeps them apart on the VAT return and tracks the stock that left the warehouse. Customs declarations and duty stay with your clearing agent.

Is Aqid ERP connected to Oman's e-invoicing?

No. The Tax Authority's Fawtara system is not connected. Invoices carry your VATIN and a QR code and go out as PDF; when the Authority's timetable reaches your business, the connection is the piece to add.

Does it run Omani payroll?

Monthly payroll in OMR with Social Protection Fund contributions for Omani employees, end-of-service accruals, leave and claims, and bilingual payslips. The WPS salary file your bank asks for is not produced yet; the run gives you each employee's net pay and IBAN.
