The rates
Friday is the weekly rest day. An employer may ask for work on it; the worker then chooses between the extra pay and a day off in its place.
| An overtime hour by day | The wage plus at least 25% |
|---|---|
| An overtime hour at night | The wage plus at least 50% |
| Work on the weekly rest day | The day's wage plus 150% of it, or another day off, as the worker chooses |
| Work on a public holiday | 150%, or a day off in lieu, as the worker chooses |
The limits
- No more than 48 actual working hours in a week.
- Eight hours a day, unless the parties agree otherwise, and no more than ten actual hours in a day.
- No more than eleven hours a day at the workplace, rest breaks taken there included.
- In Ramadan a Muslim worker works no more than six hours a day and 36 a week.
- The maximum overtime is fixed by a resolution of the Minister; read the current one before planning long rosters.
A worked example
A worker whose wage works out at BHD 2.500 an hour. The dinar has three decimals, so each sum is kept to the fils:
| One overtime hour by day, at +25% | BHD 3.125 |
|---|---|
| One overtime hour at night, at +50% | BHD 3.750 |
| Eight hours on the rest day: the day's wage and 150% of it | BHD 20.000 + 30.000 = BHD 50.000 |
Paying it
Overtime is wages: it is paid with the month's salary, through the Wage Protection System the LMRA runs, and it goes on the payslip as its own line. It is not part of the wage the SIO's leaving indemnity is worked on, which is the basic wage with any social allowance.
How Aqid ERP handles it
Aqid ERP's payroll pays overtime as a line on the month's run in BHD to three decimals and posts it to the ledger. It does not yet count hours: enter each worker's overtime hours and rate. The site's overtime calculator is Saudi Arabia's and applies the Saudi law, so it is not linked here.
