Meaning
The VAT account number (رقم حساب القيمة المضافة) is the identifier the National Bureau for Revenue issues, with a VAT certificate, when it registers a business for value added tax. Registration is mandatory for a resident whose annual taxable supplies exceed BHD 37,500 and voluntary from BHD 18,750; a non-resident supplying people not registered in Bahrain registers within 30 days of its first supply, whatever its turnover.
From the effective date the NBR sets, the number goes on every VAT invoice the business issues and on its returns, and a customer that is registered checks it before deducting the VAT charged. A business that registered voluntarily keeps its number for at least two years; one that stops trading applies to the NBR to cancel it rather than simply stopping its returns.

Example
Al Noor Trading W.L.L. passes BHD 37,500 of taxable supplies, registers on the NBR's portal and receives its VAT certificate and account number. Its next invoice, for BHD 1,050.000 of services, carries the number and BHD 105.000 of VAT at 10%, which its registered customer reclaims in its own return.
