Meaning
Bahrain's Wage Protection System (نظام حماية الأجور) requires every private-sector employer to pay its employees' wages through payment methods of institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Bahrain (Resolution No. 22 of 2021). It was phased in by size: 500 workers or more from 1 May 2021, 50 to 499 from 1 September 2021, and 1 to 49 from 1 January 2022.
The enhanced WPS the LMRA launched on 21 October 2025 goes further: the employer submits each month's payroll file through the authority's Expat Management System and approves it through its bank, which makes the transfers. Each employer names one Wage Responsible Person, who, like every authorised user, needs an Advanced eKey. An employer that does not pay through the system cannot submit transactions to the LMRA.
