Business in Doha, and the part Aqid ERP plays

Doha is the capital and almost the whole of Qatar's economy: the government and its entities, the banks and financial district, the contractors and consultancies that built and run the city, and the trading and service firms around them, many as part of a group.

Their books have no VAT line, but they do have withholding tax on payments to non-resident suppliers, income tax filed on Dhareeba from the year-end statements, retention on contracts and gratuity accrued for every employee. Aqid ERP keeps those, company by company, and shows the group together.

How a business in Doha runs on Aqid ERP

Withholding on foreign suppliers

A non-resident consultant's bill carries the withholding line at the rate your adviser confirms; the amount is held in its own account and the report lists what is due to the GTA.

Projects with retention

Fees and costs tagged to each project, retention held on contract invoices, and the margin per project against its budget.

Gratuity for everyone

Monthly payroll in QAR with end-of-service gratuity accrued under Article 54, leave and claims, and payslips in Arabic and English.

Several companies, one login

Each company of the group with its own books, read together in consolidated statements with the intercompany balances shown.

A month at a engineering consultancy in Doha (example)

  1. Say a engineering consultancy in Doha invoices QAR 1,100,000.00 of design and supervision fees in October. Qatar has no VAT, so the invoices carry no tax line; they carry your tax card number and the customer's details.
  2. A supplier bills QAR 270,000.00 for a non-resident specialist's design review, posted against a purchase order and tagged to the tower project. Where the supplier is a non-resident, withholding tax is recorded against the bill at the rate your adviser confirms, and the withholding report lists it for the GTA.
  3. Payroll for 58 staff runs with end-of-service gratuity accrued under Article 54 of the Labour Law, and its cost is posted to the books from the same run.
  4. The month's profit and loss by cost centre shows the tower project with its QAR 1,100,000.00 of revenue against the bill and its share of payroll, so you see what each line of work earns before the year end.
  5. These figures only show the arithmetic. Which taxes apply to your business is for your adviser.

The rules in Qatar, and what Aqid ERP does with them

Tax: Qatar has no VAT. Income tax is filed on the GTA's Dhareeba portal by you or your adviser from the year-end statements Aqid ERP keeps; the tax itself is not computed. Withholding tax on payments to non-residents is recorded on the bill and listed in a withholding report.

E-invoicing: no mandate applies in Qatar. Invoices and credit notes carry your tax card number and go out as PDF, with a QR code if you want one.

Payroll: monthly payroll in QAR with end-of-service gratuity accrued under Article 54 of the Labour Law and payslips in Arabic and English. Qatar's Wage Protection System needs a salary file through your bank; Aqid ERP does not produce the Qatari file yet, so the bank's template is filled from the pay run's figures.

Contracts: retention held on contract invoices, a budget and percentage complete per project, and profit by project, cost centre or branch.

Questions

Does Aqid ERP file Qatar's income tax return on Dhareeba?

No. It keeps the IFRS for SMEs statements the return starts from and the withholding report for the GTA; the return itself is prepared and filed by you or your adviser on Dhareeba.

Does Aqid ERP produce Qatar's WPS salary file?

Not yet. The WPS file exists in the Saudi (Mudad) and UAE (MoHRE SIF) layouts only. For Qatar the pay run gives you each employee's net pay and IBAN to fill your bank's template.

How is withholding tax handled?

A bill from a non-resident supplier carries a withholding line at the rate you set with your adviser; the amount is held in a withholding account and a report lists what is due to the GTA for the month.
